Forgiveness (Pt.1 Earthly)

I have a feeling I have done one on this topic before but here goes anyway.

I’m sure everyone knows what forgiveness is. It's that thing that you give someone when you have wronged them or ask God for when you have done wrong yourself. Do the words "I'm sorry, please forgive me" ring a bell? Yes forgiveness and saying sorry is that but it is also so much more!

Can you think of the biggest sign of forgiveness that we have received? How about Jesus dying on the cross? Jesus died on that cross all those years ago so that we could be forgiven. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" In Luke 23:34, he asked for forgiveness in our place so that we could go to heaven.
If Jesus can ask for our forgiveness for all the wrong we have done it can’t be hard for us to give or ask for forgiveness when someone does us or we do someone wrong, can it? Unfortunately it is for a few reasons; (Psychology time)
1) We hate feeling guilty because guilt leads to ask asking questions and thinking to much about ourselves and our actions, this tends to make us self-conscious about who we are as a person.
2) Apologizing or not is an emotional barrier like a dam holds back water, by not apologizing we are able to hold back our other emotions like sadness. Essentially we want to show our strength so we hide our sensitive emotions with anger and grudge based ones.

Now thinking about those two points reflect on what Jesus must have felt on the cross. He was naked physically and emotionally. He allowed his emotional barriers to break down in the form of having his clothes stripped and not fighting back. He did this so that we could live and yet we are unable to do even a fraction of this in some circumstances over the smallest of things.


So what can you do? Next time you do something wrong or are wronged think about what Jesus did for us, what he forgave us for. Remember this and it might just help you forgive or ask for forgiveness.

Your phrase!

**This is something a little different** The holidays are almost over for some of us and for others who are going off to uni you have a little bit longer but sooner or later we are going back to school and for some back to a place of insecurity, a place where they really don't want to be, and thats all right, that totally acceptable and something very very normal but this evening (or whenever you are reading this) I want to challenge you. Trust

Have you ever had a friend that you called you bestie and you told them everything. Your biggest secret is now something that the person can use against you. You have trusted them with something important to you, did this friend show the same trust to you. We put our trust in a seatbelt that it will protect us if we crash. We put our trust in the teacher that they are teaching the right stuff. But how often is it that we trust in the lord. Is it because we cant see him or touch him. Maybe because we cant hear him speak the way we want him to. If we cant trust him with that little thing, how can we trust him with the big thing. We cant admit to him the wrong that we have done, we dont want him knowing what he already knows. Trust can take a life time to build up but only seconds to break down and another life time to rebuild. Have you broken someones trust that you spent a life time to create.
