Asking for help

So maybe you are going through a tough time, we all do and that’s completely normal. 90% of the time you will be feeling like you can't tell anyone about it, that it's something that you have to deal with yourself because you got into the mess that you are in and you feel like you can get yourself out of it no worries. Sometimes you can but often you can't. So I'm going to tell you right now, TALK TO SOMEONE. Who though? Who can you go to, who can I trust, who has the knowledge and the wisdom to help me? These are all questions you will ask yourself when you are thinking of someone that you can’t talk to. Often you think the answers to these questions are no one. I'm going to tell you that that’s no right and I’ll give you 3 examples of people you can talk to.

1) God, often we don't think of God first, we feel like we don't want to bother him with our problems. Thing is that’s not right. God loves you, he loves everything about you. He made you with a purpose. (Check out Jeremiah 29:11) He wants to help you and most importantly he wants you to talk to him. God spent lots of time walking with Adam and eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2 & 3) and he wants you to talk to him. Maybe you won’t get the response you want from him or in the way that you expect from him but he will respond, not on your time but his. So talk to God, go to him first. Talk to him through prayer (Check out my post about prayer if you want to find out more).

2) Parents, this can be a touchy subject so I’m going to be skimming over it but if you want to know more feel free to get in touch with me and we can talk 1 on 1. I don’t know what your situation is with your parents, where you stand in your relationship with them right now but I can tell you that deep deep down they do love you. Maybe they don't show it but chances are if you weren't here tomorrow they would miss you. You have to remember that your patients were your age once before. They have experienced the same things you have, been through the troubles of break ups and all other problems that come with being a teenager. We as youth seem to miss that though. Maybe we feel like our parents can't relate to us or we can’t relate to them but they do in most cases want to help you because you are their child and they don't want to see you in a bad mood or suffering.

3) Friends, when someone says friends often we think of people our own age but your friend doesn't have to be your age. Often talking with someone you are close with that is older then you is super beneficial because they have had more life experiences and can help you because they have been though the same things that you are struggling with right now. Heck my closest friends are all at least 2 years older than me so it’s not weird to have friends older then you. So talk with your friends, I'm not saying that you should talk to that guy or girl in English who you say is your friend. I'm talking about the person or people you trust the most.

There are so many more people you could talk to like your youth pastor or grandparents. All I'm saying is that you should talk to someone, it’s not right to bottle it all up inside and then one day think that it is all too much. If worst comes to worst and you really think that there is no one that you can talk to get a hold of an organization like YouthLine (http://www.youthline.co.nz). These people know what’s up, it’s totally anonymous and its someone that won’t judge you. You just have to make sure that you do tell someone.
